this week has been one of the hardest. missing this peach really hard today.

more than anyone, she deserves to see me graduate because she was the one who had to deal with me at my worst over the past 2 years (but really the past 24). no matter how tired and crabby i was at the end of a long day, she let me vent, take things out on her that were in no way her fault and handed out unlimited doses of unconditional love. some nights i’d fall into bed with her and she’d wrap her arm around my neck and hold me so tight. and everything was going to be okay, even if just for that night.

its hard not to be able to call her. and hard not to be able to hug her. today i’m going to just be sad. miss you momma. xx

I’ve heard it said around here that Swedes don’t show their emotions, we’ll see ….I have my Kleenex just in case.

They do like to laugh however, and Louise was our instigator.

I’m sure you will all agree that Louise was a character like no other.

The Lord gifted her to be a leader and a visionary with a sunny and outgoing personality and to have an uncanny ability to gather people together to accomplish good things.

God’s gift to me was her cherished and lasting friendship…..and I know that’s true for all of you too.

She had boundless energy, a wealth of new ideas, told jokes, had opinions on everything, an infectious smile and laugh, thrived on community, loved to teach,

Did I say told jokes? And could gently twist my arm and rope me in to countless adventures and misadventures with her.

Just my being up here today was so Louise. When Bob asked me to share a few words of course I said yes. I’d be honored, although I knew Louise would expect more than just a few. I would have to sit with Kleenex and contemplate what to write down, get up in front of all her family and friends in my heightened emotional state and with a lump in my throat describe why I thought Louise was so wonderful, I think she is just beaming. And for Louise, I’d do just about anything.

I first met her at a Covenant Women Meeting. She was new to the church and we had been members for a year or so. Between us, at that time, we had 3 little girls. Instant friends.

Our paths became tightly entwined in the life of this church. I had a front row seat to watch God live in her and work through her.

Cov Women, Cov Women Ministries and Women Ministries – the name changed, but never her devotion. As president or supporter she inspired and left her mark. She especially enjoyed attending the annual Women’s retreat to Covenant Harbor. It wasn’t uncommon for her to invite a potential first timer and say, “you can room with me.”

She also faithfully attended the Women’s Bible study for as long as she could.

She was our Children’s Ministry Director extraordinaire. She brought new formats and excitement to Birthday Party for Jesus, VBS and Wednesday Adventure club – the Bible lessons came alive. We also taught Sunday School together and laughed when we realized we both would fall asleep Sat nights reciting the Books of the Bible, trying to stay ahead of our 2^nd and 3^rd graders.

Not only was she a regular of the Friday morning Women’s breakfast, she was the life and never even drank one cup of coffee. That certainly was not Covenant – must have been her Baptist upbringing.

John and I and Bob and Louise were a foursome one year in the church golf outing and we were award winners – for losing the most golf balls. I never had so much fun on a golf course let alone while losing something.

Hospitality, cooking, calligraphy, shopping, telling us about Sven, Olie and Lena - she could and would do it all. Except sing in the choir

In our conversation last week she said she had a job for me, she always had a job for me as I’m sure she did for many of you too. She gave me the name of someone she thought I should invite to a particular church activity. It’s written on my chalkboard to do list and I’m going to follow through. Social media has nothing on Louise’s Network.

MS did gradually slow her down, but without some of the busyness of activities and programs it allowed her strength, inner joy and most importantly her faith to shine brightly for us all. And she always remained a steadfast prayer warrior. If she knew you, she prayed for you. What an example and what a legacy for you girls and Max.

As Julie Dahl and I were consoling each other early Saturday morning we stopped and smiled and said can’t you just hear Louise saying from heaven…..

Get to work, tell as many as you can about Jesus.

It’s really nice here and I want everyone to join me, the more the merrier!
